Prince Imrahil, father of the fair beauty Lothiriel, set out one day on horseback with his dear daughter. She, soon to be betrothed to the Rohan Lord, Eomer, was looking forward to her wedding day, and was hoping to find some eagle feathers near a rocky crag to braid into her hair. It came to pass, however, that once the feathers intertwined with Lothiriel's locks, that her nose protruded in an unsightly, fell manner, and formed into a beak. Imrahil found this to be most queer and reached for his sword, but upon drawing it, discovered a thick layer of similar feathers adorned his hands and arms.

This deck is one of the first that I made, one of my all time favourites... and also one of the most fiddly to play. As soon as I discovered the abilities of Lothiriel and Imrahil I immediately thought of the Eagle allies, and how amazing it would be to be able to make use of the enter and leave play effects consistently, every turn by bouncing them with this Gondorian Father and Daughter combo.

This deck has a lot of moving parts, and a lot of stuff to remember. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it can be amazing.

Only, how does one do that? The Last Alliance doesn't change traits, right? Only card text. Well that is where Steward of Gondor, which goes on Imrahil, and Elessar, which goes on Lothiriel, come in. Both cards give the Gondor trait, so you simply target those cards with TLA, and then you can get either Lothiriel to bring an eagle in from hand, or Imrahil to pull one from the deck each round. This enables shenanigans such as: 4 damage from Descendant of Thorondor during the quest phase, two of which occurs after staging. 4 progress on any location, either active or in staging due to Meneldor. Using Gwaihir to find an eagle you previously chump blocked with, get two procs of their ability, then two more due to Lothiriel.

Then when the eagles leave play you can either send them back to the deck or you can tuck them underneath Eagles of the Misty Mountains, to start growing it to obscene numbers very quickly. I usually stop when it's at +6 +6 . Support of the Eagles of course goes on Imrahil, as does an Unexpected Courage, meaning when you have two Support of the Eagles on him you can get +8 +8 , and that's assuming you stopped at 6 cards underneath EotMM. It's worth getting at least one copy of EotMM out as early as you can, as you'll need the power spike of this ally

In general, you are looking for Steward and Elessar as a matter of priority. Hard mulligan for at least one of these, though you do have a reasonable chance of finding either early. Other good things to find on the mulligan are EotMM and Rod of the Steward, which, once you're all set up serves very nicely as card draw as you'll find resources build up a lot with this list (If someone across the table has Eomer, it would be worth switching this for Horn of the Mark).

The Last Alliance has a number of different synergies in this deck. Here are some combos worth looking out for beyond using it on Elessar/Steward to get eagles out:

  • Alagos can give you a resource for a Gondor ally entering play.
  • You can tuck a Gondor ally leaving play behind EotMM.
  • Morwen Steelsheen can get her effect from an eagle leaving play.
  • Knight of Belfalas can bring back a dead eagle to hand. It can be effective to chump with, and then you play one to get another dead knight back into hand. Your resources tend to build up, so you can easily play multiple a turn.
  • Elessar can target eagles if you brought one in during the quest phase - otherwise, it is usually strong to target Defender of Rammas.
  • Visionary Leadership can spike your willpower across the board. Put it on Imrahil as he will usually have a resource during questing.
  • The Eagles Are Coming! pulling Gondor and Eagle cards means drawing 3-5 cards for 0 cost is pretty common. You have 37 cards with either trait. It's also a good way to find Steward.

Other useful things: This is by no means a one deck. It gets absolutely demolished by any late game discard all attachments effect, but A Test of Willand Hasty Stroke can help with those. This is generic though, and I'd suggest having the sideboard to hand to make changes based on what is more likely to come up.

In a multiplayer game, protect your Errand-riders and distribute resources to the other players as much as possible. Playing solo, they usually end up chumping something at some point.

I would add 3 Soldier of Gondor, it's banger with Lothíriel, Prince Imrahil, The Last Alliance and maybe 31 allies !

also cool idea. it might be of use to add some In Service of the Steward not sure how fast the important 2 attachments appear, and in addition, Alagos can get gondortrait too.

not know if its worth but 1 or 2 Captain's Wisdom might also be of help

@Kaspatou Especially playing solo, you end up with a huge buildup of extra resources as you have Steward, but don't really need to spend anything. In most of my games therefore, Rod actually doesn't feel that expensive, and optionally, you can use it multiple times per turn as it doesn't need to exhaust, but let me know if you experiment and find something else that works!

I've often looked at Soldier of Gondor and thought it would work great in quests where you are expecting to hit 40 ! Not so sure it's worth it if you're below 40 though.

@doomguard I've tended to find that resources aren't too much of an issue, as most of the time you don't really need to spend anything! Also, Alagos usually gives out one resource per turn - early. He's a good target for TLA for that consistent 4 resources while setting up the attachments. Envoy of Pelargir helps with it as well, particularly if she turns up in hand and you can bring her out with Lothiriel.

In Service to the Steward was honestly cut for Elessar when that card came out. Maybe a couple would help with consistency? Give it a go and let me know if you'd like :)

@Torien if your exprience is to get the important ones soon right enough, what about A Fair Exchange? there are some uniques in the deck, and it offer some flexibility to get the important ones and after

@doomguard I have gone back and forth on that card more than any other in the deck. It was basically my last cut. I need to try it out more. It's definitely in the sideboard at least.

I would consider putting Thorongil in this deck, if it’s in your card pool. It would attach to Prince Imrahil, so that he can ready after an ally leaves play. I think that would be a great addition to this deck!

@granimaljeff Ultimately, while it might be a good fit, I'm not so sure in this one, as all it would do is grant one conditional ready per round. If Imrahil didn't have the once per round condition it would be pretty cool though. As it stands, I can get the same effect for 2 resources from unexpected courage!

@Torien would perhaps cut 1-2 Valiant Sacrifice for A Fair Exchange

imo in fact Valiant Sacrifice is not so good as it seems yea overall 1 card for 1 res (replce itself and an additionall for cost of 1) , but with Rod of the Steward around it seems not so big of a deal and increase the deck, even if the citcumstances will be met every round. if more carddraw from card is needed, and you have much res, then Keen as Lances might be of more use.

so i would exchange 3 Valiant Sacrifice for 1 A Fair Exchange and 2 Keen as Lances (specially if not possible to include Gandalf )

but it is overall a minor change, and might not have an countable impact.

@Lifeburst Say you have 2 locations with 4 quest points on in staging. You pull Gwaihir from top 5 cards, having activated TLA on Imrahil during combat. Gwaihir's enters play pulls an eagle from discard, in this instance, you pull a previously chump blocked Meneldor. 2 progress. At the end of the round, Gwaihir has attacked for 3, Meneldor has attacked for 2. Gwaihir gets shuffled into the deck and Meneldor goes back to hand. 2 more progress. The next turn during questing, TLA targets Elessar on Lothiriel and you bring Meneldor in exhausted and committed to the quest, 2 progress and 2 on top of Lothiriel's 3 . Then at the end of the quest phase Meneldor gets shuffled into your deck for another 2 progress. 8 total, clearing both locations in staging, and has contributed 2 and 2 for the cost of two TLA activations and 1 resource.
