Introduction
Here is a true solo deck built around the versatility of Grimbeorn the Old in combat department.
The main way to benefit quickly from its combat's abilities without sacrificing the questing willpower in true solo is to play with the contract Forth, The Three Hunters!, and ready everybody, Grimbeorn the Old included.
Potential / prioritized attachments
-
Grimbeorn the Old : The One Ring, Strength and Courage, Gondorian Shield, Round Shield, Armored Destrier, War Axe, Magic Ring, Unexpected Courage, Warrior Sword, Captain of Gondor, Rohan Warhorse, Raiment of War, Golden Belt
-
Arwen Undómiel : Windfola, Steed of Imladris, Unexpected Courage, Round Shield, Silver Circlet, Dagger of Westernesse, Gondorian Shield, Dagger of Westernesse, Golden Belt
-
Aragorn : Steed of the North, Dagger of Westernesse, Celebrían's Stone, Sword of Númenor, Roheryn, Raiment of War, Thorongil, Golden Belt
Strategy and spending
Since phase 2, Arwen Undómiel discards Elven-light or non-used attachments, and gives ressources to her in order to draw or play A Test of Will, or to Aragorn who will use them to ready himself or to play some attachment if he got Thorongil or Roheryn yet. That will free tactics resources up for the Grimbeorn the Old's response.
I like to play defense attachments on Grimbeorn too since its built-in attack stats and abilities + Strength and Courage are good enough, and that Aragorn could help with its readying and attack at 3, Dagger of Westernesse and Sword of Númenor. Then it will depend on your playing style and the scenario.
The combo Grimbeorn the Old + Strength and Courage + Armored Destrier is a killer one. Most of the time Rohan Warhorse is not really needed in 1-player game.
Thorongil is not required for the deck to be powerful, but it's a fun and efficient way to use 3 resources after the contract's flip, and it balances your deck depending on the scenario's difficulties : if threat could be a problem, use Thorongil to fetch Aragorn ; if locations could slow you down or you want to compensate for the 0 wp of Grimbeorn (when you have flipped to B side, but you do not have any readying solution for him yet and you want him for the combat), fetch Aragorn ; if you need to rush the ennemies up / overkill, or open the tactics budget without Roheryn, fetch Aragorn.
Tale of Tinúviel is thematic and can help Aragorn sometimes for its attack or defense.
Have fun and groooowls !
